Jose Fernandez is a great Sensei that applies various initiatives that will help his students learn through understanding, such as his great creativity and the amount of preparation he puts into each class. To classify a Sensei as great, he or she would have to take time out of his or her own time and use it constructively to improve the success of his students. Beyond that, a great teacher always strives to make his or her class lively and entertaining. The mark of a great teacher is someone who teaches using a variety of techniques that keep students awake and in learning mode; Sensei Fernandez does this and more. More important than the skill level is the Sensei’s ability to apply their wisdom and maturity and instill what he or she has learned over the years, in his or her students. The greatest of teachers strive to make his or her student not only able for physical confrontation, but also ready to take on the real world.

Jose Fernandez, Sensei Washington DC
Jose Rios, Sensei
“Those who learn from us in turn will teach. In the transmission of knowledge, generations are woven into an historical fabric that connects us all. This is teaching as a great cosmic quilting bee."
What makes a great Sensei? Teaching is one of the most complicated jobs today.
It demands broad knowledge of subject matter, curriculum and standards; enthusiasm, a caring attitude and a love of learning; knowledge of discipline and Dojo management techniques; and a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people. Sensei’s mold the lives that they influence. Lessons learned in the Dojo remain with the student throughout life. Sensei’s that break down barriers and reach into the souls of the students that they are responsible for do not get the recognition or gratitude they have earned. Many Senseis’ are exhausted from their workload and responsibilities. They have their own families, financial and life stresses that challenge them along with everyone else. Jose Rios, Sensei is one of those rare teachers. He is a strong role model who possess the kind of qualities that make his students want to be (and become) better people.
"World Sansei" The Way of Gojuryu Karate

Go with the Flow
The Way of Gojuryu
In my experience, to attain optimum happiness, you must go with the flow. Events unfolding in our lives have a certain flow, or direction. If you try to paddle against the current you may suffer fatigue to the point of exhaustion. I don't mean you have to accept everything that is happening to you. The Universe (God) provides the human mind with a method of bringing things it desires into its reality. I am not referring only to material objects, but also to fulfillment, compassion, and joy. This is not accomplished by dwelling on the things we don't want such as the symptoms of a disease. You must find a quiet, comfortable space, calm your mind, and visualize how you want your circumstances to manifest. Really get into it. Feel the emotions associated with your visualization. If you are doing it right, this should feel good, and you will want to repeat this experience frequently. Don't worry about the details of how your requests will come to be. That will be handled by the Universe (God). You will receive what you focus on. I believe this is why anti-war movements don't work, but peace movements do. Look to King, Gandhi, Jesus, or Buddha for examples. I know many won't agree. They believe you must "fight" to be triumphant. This has not been my experience.
Tao
Tao is Chinese for "Way" or "Path," and forms the basis for Taoist philosophy. Tao is the natural order of the cosmos, the path of equilibrium or enlightenment. In early days, before it received its present name, Taoism was often called 'the Way'. The 'Way' that
The Law of Nature
The Tao is the law of nature and the basic principle of universe. It is the law of your true self.
Yin and Yang – the Symbol of Tao
are symbols of the Tao and Taosim. They are the dynamic force of the Tao, constantly interacting with one another.
According to the ancient Chinese philosophers, in the beginning was Tao. But then Tao separated into the two prime principles, yang and yin. And from the many combinations of yang and yin everything else that is in the world has emerged.
Yang and yin produced the 'five elements', which are metal, wood, fire, water and earth. Everything in life is in a constant state of flux; in fact, the only thing that you can be sure of is that it will change.
